Question
Briefly discuss about problem-focused coping strategies.

Answer

  1. Blame: Sportspersons also use this technique or strategy whenever they confront with any stressful situation. Sometimes, they blame themselves and sometimes others. If they fail to give a good performance in a competition, they may also blame the unsuitable environment, referee, umpires, equipment, etc.
  2. Avotdanco: Various types of stressful situations such as competition stress, training stress, etc., can be avoided for the time being but not for a long time. In sports field, this technique or strategy can be used whenever there is a lot of stress or it can be said that one should avoid serious competition when one is under great stress.
  3. Substance Abuse: Substance abuse or drug abuse and even overeating may provide a short relief and help sportspersons to disconnect from reality but it creates a vicious cycle of dependency on those substances and creates further or additional stressful situations.
