Competition arises in a society when there is a lack of a goal or a limited number and the number of individuals or groups achieving it is high.

$(2)$ Indirect competition:
 
In indirect competition rivals are unfamiliar with each other.
Although they are not aware of each other's presence, they try to achieve their goals before each other.
Which is called indirect competition.
E.g. Examinations held to get a job in a bank.
People in society try to gain more prestige or status than others.
It is indirect competition.
