There are differences of opinion as to the meaning of civility/decency.
There is not much difference between culture and civilization.
Yet we cannot ignore the subtle differences between the two.
Meaning of civility/decency:
Culture is the way of life.
Culture includes what has been achieved through knowledge, beliefs, art, policy, law, customs, etc.
Civilization is the amount of all things related to the acquired life and the social system that separates man from non-human society.
E.g. Indus Valley Civilization.
Sociologist McIver states that the most valuable creations of society are culture.
E.g. Literature, rock, art etc.
Civilization, on the other hand, involves the development of useful things, such as art and technique, in an effort by man to improve his condition.
Civilization does not mean the development of machine technology.
Civilization is the process by which a method is developed to achieve certain objectives.
In ancient times men used stones to light fires.
Uses a chandelier or lighter.
Here stones and chandeliers are known as 'tools'. And ‘fire’ is the purpose.
A chandelier was developed out of stone to light this fire and the satisfaction that man gets from this development is called civility.
The civilization we are and the culture we have.
Scope of Civilization/decency:
There are two divisions in the field of civilization.
