The play underlines the theme of forgive and forget in a way that Chubukov forgets to tell his daughter that Ivan has visited their house for a marriage proposal. On one hand where Chubukov willingly accepts the proposal, Natalya diverts the topic by getting into an argument with him regarding the ownership of the meadows. Later, when she is informed by her father about it, she forgives Ivan and tries to begin the conversation afresh. Therefore, the principle of forgive and forget is important to maintain the cordial relations with our neighbours. Argument leads to discord and enmity, whereas forgiveness leads to harmony and unity. forgiveness is a sign of maturity and large-heartedness.
