✓
Answer
Adherence to virtue and moderation is essential for spiritual practice. The form of virtue and restraint is explained by the Yama rule.
The explanation of the form of Yama is as follows:
‘Yum’ means restraint.
Yama has five$: 1.$ Ahimsa, $2.$ Satya, $3.$ Asteya, $4.$ Brahmacharya and $5.$ Aparigraha.
Maharshi Patanjali has described the five Mahavratas to be observed by human beings.
Gandhiji has given these five first places in his Ekadeshi Vrata.
The explanation of the five Mahavratas is as follows:
$1.$ Non$-$violence:
The broadest sense of non-violence includes not killing any animal or harming it in any way.
Non-violence is not just a rule of conduct, but an instinct of the mind. The instinct that does not have hatred is non-violence.
$2.$ Truth: The one who follows the truth should always speak the truth.
Never lie.
Speaking the truth means getting the right information and knowledge about what you want to talk about and presenting it to the listener in the right way.
The speech of a Satyavrat observer should have these six qualities: $(1)$ The thing that the speaker knows correctly
To present the thing accurately. $(2)$ Not to deceive the listener $(3)$ Not to confuse the listener $(4)$ Not to make the listener understand. $(5)$ If the speech is for the welfare of all $(6)$ The speech is not sad for anyone, if any one of these six qualities is missing, then the speaker's speech becomes a mixture of untruths instead of truth.
$3.$ Asteya: ‘Asteya’ means not to steal from mind, word and deed and not to lure the wealth of others.
From the point of view of yoga, not only taking or grabbing someone else's thing, but also making this kind of desire violates the Asteya vow.
$4.$ Brahmacharya: Brahmacharya is the name given to restraint on sexual arousal including all the senses.
Thus, Brahmacharya means restraint of the senses in thought and conduct.
$5.$ Aparigraha: Aparigraha means renunciation of hoarding. The seeker should not save money or other things unnecessarily.
The seeker should reduce his needs in terms of living a simple life and having advanced ideas.
Doing so will save time and energy and can be used to achieve a spiritual goal.
Those who observe the vow of non-aggression get peace of mind. It also benefits other members of the community.
