$1.$ Meaning Communication system which depends on rule and regulations and is implemented for the accomplishment of business objectives is known as formal communication. Communication system which depends on human relation and friendship is known as informal communication.
$2.$ Objective The objective of formal communication is to control the activities by co-ordination them. The objective of informal communication is to give more co-ordination and credibility to the organization.
$3.$ Base Communication takes place between two person, on the basis of rules and regulations of the organization. Communication takes place between two persons on the basis of personal and friendly relations.
$4.$ Control & Supervision It requires control and supervision. It does not require any control and supervision.
$5.$ Flexibility It is less flexible because there in the relations employees and officers are certain. It is more flexible because it is based on human relations.
$6.$ Time It takes-place at work place, during working hours. It takes place at any place and any time.
$7.$ Process & Information Process and information in formal communication are pre-planned. Process and information in informal communication are not decided in advance.
$8.$ Nature Formal communication mostly expressed in written form. Informal communication can be expressed orally or through symbolic language.
$9.$ Parties In formal communication parties are certain. In formal communication parties are not certain.
