- The Election Commission has to conduct all the elections in India except the local bodies and do the work related to it.
- The main functions of the Election Commission are as follows:
(1) To prepare voter list and make necessary changes in it, to prepare election identity card.
- The BLO's operations are simple.
(2) Demarcation of constituencies.
(3) Recognition of political parties.
(4) Announcing election related programs.
(5) To allot election symbols to political parties. To resolve disputes over symbols.
- E.g. Allocation of JDU symbol in Bihar
(6) To prevent election related irregularities.
(7) Holding re-election or postponing the counting of votes if necessary.
(8) To check the election expenses incurred by the candidates.
(9) Resolving election related grievance disputes.
(10) Announcing the election results.
(11) Adherence to the Code of Conduct.
