  • These are known as other backward classes.
  • Central and state governments appoint commissions for the development of such groups.
  • In 1935, the Government of India appointed a commission headed by Kakasaheb Kalelkar for other backward classes.
  • Then in 1978 Bindeshwari Prasad Mandal was established.
  • In 1990, the Prime Minister of India, Shri VP Singh, accepted the recommendations of the Mandal Punch.
  • 1992 The Central Government has set up a Finance and Development Corporation for the children of backward classes.
  • Which facilitates coaching for children from other backward castes and helps voluntary organizations working in these areas.
  • The Government of Gujarat has accepted the recommendations of the Bakshi Commission in 1973 for other backward classes.
