Gandhiji prepared the public for a last and final fight. In a meeting of the All India Congress Committee held in Mumbai on $8th$ August, $1942$ under the leadership of Gandhiji, the historic resolution to start the 'Quit India' movement was passed.
Early in the morning on $9th$ August, leaders like Gandhiji, Vallabhbhai Patel. Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and other prominent leaders were arrested. As a result, the fight grew fiercer and was widespread. A large number of farmers, students, teachers, businessmen and women joined this movement. Government buildings, railways and telephones were severely damaged across the country. There were strikes in many parts of the country. People in many parts of the country formed their own national government to expand the fight.
The British took oppressive measures to crush the movement. By the end of $1943\ AD,$
