Question
How are classical conditioning and operant conditioning different in strengthening the response ?
✓
Answer
The Russian physiologist Pavlov gave us the gift of classical conditioning while the American psychologist gave us the gift of learning by operant conditioning. There is difference between classical conditioning and operant conditioning. An individual used to get reinforcement in classical conditioning even without doing any activity. While in operant condition, the subject is expected to perform some specific activity in order to get reinforcement. The subject has to operate on the environment so it is called operant. In this type of learning, the subject is expected to perform a task decided by the experimenter so it is called instrumental conditioning also.
