Generally, large cities with a population of five lakhs or more have a Corporation. A ward is created for a population of $75,000$ for the election of a Corporation. There are four members to be elected per ward. $50 \%$ of the total seats in the corporation are reserved for women. Municipal elections are held every five years. Elected members of the corporation elect one of their members as ‘Mayor’ every two and a half years. The mayor is the head of the corporation. He presides over the corporation.
