  • After the independence of the country, the government has adopted the geopolitics to achieve socio-economic development.
  • One of the objectives of the plan was to reduce regional imbalances and achieve balanced development of the country.
  • There are two main agencies working for this.
1. Planning Commission: The main function of the Planning Commission is to formulate and implement a five year plan for the socio-economic development of the country.
  • So that more attention can be given to the rapid development of the states and the region and the necessary resources can be allocated for that.
  • From 2015, the Planning Commission will be replaced by the Policy Commission.
2. Finance Commission: The Finance Commission sets standards for the allocation of financial resources between the Central and State Governments, with the aim of reducing regional imbalances.
  • Despite the government's efforts, the regional imbalances that have arisen due to historical reasons as well as the post-independence development process have not been able to achieve the full goal.
  • There are huge differences between the states and their areas in terms of agriculture, industry, means of transportation, favorable conditions for capital investment, infrastructural facilities, etc.
  • Some states are developing very fast while some states are developing slowly.
