State the efforts made by the Government for balanced regional development.
✓
Answer
After the independence of the country, the government has adopted the geopolitics to achieve socio-economic development.
One of the objectives of the plan was to reduce regional imbalances and achieve balanced development of the country.
There are two main agencies working for this.
1. Planning Commission: The main function of the Planning Commission is to formulate and implement a five year plan for the socio-economic development of the country.
So that more attention can be given to the rapid development of the states and the region and the necessary resources can be allocated for that.
From 2015, the Planning Commission will be replaced by the Policy Commission.
2. Finance Commission: The Finance Commission sets standards for the allocation of financial resources between the Central and State Governments, with the aim of reducing regional imbalances.
Despite the government's efforts, the regional imbalances that have arisen due to historical reasons as well as the post-independence development process have not been able to achieve the full goal.
There are huge differences between the states and their areas in terms of agriculture, industry, means of transportation, favorable conditions for capital investment, infrastructural facilities, etc.
Some states are developing very fast while some states are developing slowly.
