What is Himalaya? How are they divided?

  1. Standing tall in the north are the snow-capped Himalayas. Himalaya mean the ‘abode of snow’.
  2. The Himalayan Mountains are divided into three main parallel ranges.
  3. The northernmost is the Great Himalaya or Himadri.
  4. The world’s highest peaks are located in this range.
  5. To the south of Himadri lies the Middle Himalaya or Himachal.
  6. The Southernmost range is of Shivalik.
