The Government of India established the Department of Women and Child Welfare in 1985, with the aim of creating a distinctive identity for women and achieving the objective of various provisions related to development.
Formation of Women's Commission: In order to protect, nurture and safeguard the rights and legal rights of women, the National Commission for Women's Commission was formed in 1990 and a law was enacted for it.
According to this law, the National Commission for Women was formed on January 31, 1999.
One is nominated by the President and the other five by the President.
Headquartered in New Delhi.
Functions of Women's Commission:
1. Women's Rights: Includes matters for women's interests, upliftment and protection.
2. Laws on women are constantly assessed and reviewed.
3. Intervenes in specific personal complaints on women.
4. Suggest measures to protect the interests of women wherever possible.
