Question
Write a short note: Akbro's policy towards Rajputs.

Answer

Akbar was a strict imperialist.
  • He wanted to establish a one$-$cycle power over the whole of India.
  • To fulfill this desire he adopted a liberal Rajput policy.
  • Akbar captured the fort of Medta in Marwad in $1562.$
  • In the same year, when he visited the tomb of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, the famous saint of Ajmer, King Bharmal of Amer accepted Akbar's sovereignty and married his daughter Jodhabai to Akbar.
  • Akbar appointed King Bharmal, his son Bhagwandas and grandson Mansih to important positions.
  • Akbar's generosity and foresight led to the service of the best medieval generals and princes of the Mughal Empire.
  • Akbar broke the backs of the Rajputs occupying Gondwana and Chittor and the Rajput kingdoms of Ranthambore, Kalingar, Bikaner and Jaisalmer came under Akbar's control.
  • Akbar recognized his independence and established him as a high official.
  • Thus due to Akbar's generous and far$-$sighted Rajput policy, the Mughal Empire developed and its roots went deep.
  • This also led to the integration of Hindu$-$Muslim culture.
