Answer
Aurangzeb stayed in South India from $1662$ to $1707$ and this was the end of his career. At the beginning of Aurangzeb's rule, Marathi power rose in South India under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
In $1674,$ Chhatrapati Shivaji anointed his kingdom as an independent king.
After the death of Shivaji, Aurangzeb came to the south.
The Shiites of Bijapur and Gowalkoda ruled from the sultanate.
He defeated the two kingdoms and merged them into his own kingdom.
In South India there was an opportunity for the Maratha chiefs and to develop their own power.
Aurangzeb wanted to subdue the Marathas.
He defeated, captured and killed Sambhaji, son of Maratha Shivaji in $1689.$
By $1704$ Satara, Pnhala, Bangla Raigad etc. were occupied.
However, he could not defeat the Marathas completely. After the death of Aurangzeb in Ahmednagar in $1707,$ Marathi power in South India developed rapidly.
