Different wild animals live in the forests of India. These include mammals, birds, aquatic animals, amphibians, worms (bugs), reptiles, insects, etc. Our national aiiimal the Tiger is found in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. Wild goats are found in the Himalayan forests and in Nilgiri mountains. Elephants and one-horned rhinoceros in Assam. Elephants are seen in the forests of Kerala Karnataka. Asiatic lions are only found in the Gir Forests of Gujarat. Ghudkhar (Wild Ass) is found in the dry (arid) regions of Kachchh, Surendranagar and Patan. There is a huge diversity among birds: Variety of bird species like the national bird peacock, crane, duck, cuckoo (koel), parrot, ghorad, chibari, kabar, kite, vulture, eagle, owl, hawk, crow, pigeon, sparrow, etc. are found in large numbers. Sea turtles are also found along the Gujarat and Odisha sea shores. There are many varieties of reptiles like snakes also. Thousands of migratory birds from distant colder regions come to the reservoirs and wet land areas of India during winter.
