Indra is the god of gods. It is said that इन्दति अयम् इति इन्द्रः means one who is omnipotent is Indra. He became Indra, the god of gods after performing one hundred Ashwamegh Yajna. Therefore Indra is called 'शतक्रतु' Indra rules the city of Amravati in heaven. He is called the god of Parjanya also and therefore gives rain. He nourishes all the creatures. Vajra is his weapon. He breaks the sides of mountains with Vajra and destroys the clouds which stops rainfall. Therefore he is called वृत्रहा and नमुचिहन्ता. Lord Vishnu is Indra's younger brother.
