Question
What are some commonly known facts about magnetism?

Answer

Some commonly known facts about magnetism:
  1. Every regardless of its size and shape has two poles called north pole and
  2. Isolated magnetic monopoles do not exist. If a magnet is broken into two or more pieces then each piece behaves like an independent magnet with some what weaker magnetic field.
  3. Like magnetic poles repel each other, whereas unlike poles attract each other.
  4. When a bar magnet/ magnetic needle is suspended freely or is pivoted, it aligns itself in geographically north-south direction.

A book with many printing errors contains four different formulae for the displacement $y$ of a particle undergoing a certain periodic function:
$i) \ y = a \sin \frac{2 \pi t}{T}$
$ii) \ y=a \sin v t$
$iii) \ y=\frac{a}{T} \sin \frac{t}{a}$
$iv) \  y =\frac{a}{\sqrt{2}}\left[\sin \frac{2 \pi t}{T}+\cos \frac{2 \pi t}{T}\right]$
Here, $a$ is maximum displacement of particle, $y$ is speed of particle, $T$ is time period of motion. Rule out the wrong formulae on dimensional grounds.
