Question
What is the current flowing through the shunt resistance?

Answer

Image
If $I_5$ is the current through the shunt resistance, then the remaining current $\left(I-I_S\right)$ will flow through the galvanometer.
Now, the potential difference across the galvanometer $=$ the potential difference across the shunt
$\therefore G \left(1- I _5\right)= S I _5$
$\therefore G \mid- G I _5= S I _5$
$\therefore S I _5+ G I _5= G \mid$
$\therefore I _5=\left(\frac{G}{S+G}\right) \mid$
This is the current flowing through the shunt resistance.
